Photon : prototype price versus production identity

Photon publishes Free, $25 Pro and $250-per-line Business paths. The number and operating model are as important as the price step.

OUR TAKE

A visible step from prototype plans to dedicated business lines

Photon makes it possible to see several stages of a project in one plan menu. The ledger treats its prototype and business offerings as separate products for cost planning.

Budget the intended destination

The Pro plan lists iMessage at $25 monthly, while Business lists dedicated iMessage lines at $250 per line monthly. A three-line Business deployment therefore has a $750 monthly recurring subtotal before other channels or account terms.

Free and Pro are useful exploration points, but the Business identity and infrastructure promise should drive the budget when customers need a persistent company number.

Count software and operating responsibility

The public pricing page also describes self-hosting and open-source access. Software licensing and hosted subscription cost are different categories. A self-hosted route can add hardware, connectivity and time spent keeping the service available.

Ask which messaging capabilities require the business configuration. Group access, user scale and channel options can change the relevant tier even if a direct-message prototype looked inexpensive.

Make the expansion assumption explicit

Model the number of distinct identities you need today and at the next rollout stage. A low prototype bill does not establish the recurring price of the final number layout.

The decision in one sentence

Use the Business rate when the requirement is dedicated lines.
